Emptor

What is Emptor?

Emptor, the Latin noun for "buyer", is a company focused on facilitating transactions on the Internet.

Founded in 1997, by Andrew Boer and Andre Marquis, Emptor was one of the first person-to-person payment companies.   Similar in many ways to Paypal, Emptor envisioned a method where buyers and sellers could seamlessly conduct financial transactions over the web, particularly on classified ad and auction marketplaces.

In 1998, Emptor developed Accept.com, which was funded by AT&T Ventures, Kleiner Perkins and Benchmark Capital.  Accept.com was acquired by Amazon in 1999, and became the backbone of their Amazon Payments Program.

Today, Emptor continues to explore the nexus between social media, content, and payment systems.
